This oil on canvas by French artist Maurice Bompard is a fine example of late French Impressionism. Bompard was born in 1857 and started painting at the height of the movement. Although little is known of his history, it is apparent that he was quite influenced by painters of that movement. His vibrant pallet and broad brush strokes suggests that he experimented with different techniques to capture light and mood. The painting is signed in the lower left and it possibly dates between 1900 and 1930.
