Charles Henry Richert created Impressionistic landscapes and woodblock prints. His best known portrait is of the poet, Robert Frost. Born in Boston, he studied at the Massachusetts Normal Art School with notables: Joseph De Camp, Ernest L. Major, and Richard Andrew. He also had a year of study in Europe. Richert maintained a studio in Ellsworth, Maine and during this time he painted scenes of the coast around Blue Hill Bay and Bar Harbor. Many of his landscapes are depictions of Maine. He was a member of the Boston Society of Watercolorists, the Painters Guild, Boston Art Club, and the American Watercolor Society. He exhibited at the Boston Art Club (1906 –1907), the New York Watercolor Club, the American Federation of Art, the Philadelphia Art Club, the Beaux-Arts Institute of Design (1919-1920), the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, and the National Academy of Design among others. The Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland, Maine includes his work in their collection. Richert held teaching positions at Rindge Technical School in Cambridge, Massachusetts and the Massachusetts School of Art. During his long career he also designed theater sets. This painting is signed and dated in the lower right hand corner.
